Five Spices

Cooking is my love language—probably the one most appreciated by my people.

Yeah mom, thanks for the pep talk -where are my cookies!

Early food experiences were seasoned, first by my mother’s Korean feasts, and then by Staten Island’s strong Italian presence. It took leaving for college in Boston for me to discover our country’s roots with straight-up American stews, pot roasts, and apple pie. Marriage and a move to the South led to slo-o-o-ow food and southern cooking, with no meal being complete without bread and dessert, (gluten-free or wedding cake.)

Cooking with and for my loved ones doubled the joy and the blessing. I hope these recipes and the memories that accompany them bring joy to you and your loved ones.
