Do What You Love—Love What You Do

Are you doing what you love?

When we pursue an endeavor, it’s vital that we invest our time, resources, energy, and self into a true passion—one we strongly desire to see grow. Something we look forward to. Something that makes us get out of bed in the morning.

In John 10:10, Jesus said he came so that we could have life, and have it more abundantly. He wasn’t being rhetorical. What if there’s more joy, more passion, more creativity—to be had, and we’re settling for the lowest bar?

But who loves dealing with spreadsheets and budgets, or doing laundry, or taking out the garbage? I’m not suggesting that we should expect mind-blowing glee from everything involved in our pursuits, but adjusting our attitude as we approach mundane tasks can help us find joy.

This leaves us with a challenge. How, practically, do we love what we do?

We take action—choose to follow love’s definition in 1 Corinthians 13.

Be patient with yourself and your work. Be kind and thoughtful to those you work with and for. Don’t be jealous or envious of positions or purview. Refrain from being rude or self-seeking with those around you. Refuse to be provoked by people or situations. Don’t keep a mental tally of when you’ve been wronged. When things go poorly for others, don’t gloat, and rejoice when truth is revealed.

Always protect, always trust, always hope, always persevere.

This is the path to maturity and knowing peace. This is how we love what we do.
